Bus and Rail connections to waterbus

We have had a loads of enquiries from customers wishing to travel on the waterbus and return by other modes of transport. To help you decide on your journey please take a look at this information which not only gives you the directions and times fro waterbus stops but also details of connections to car, bus or train. Barton Grange  - is situated on the A6 between Preston and Garstang. for visitors travelling by car the postcode is PR3 0RB. Travelling by Stagecoach bus there is a half hour service connecting Morecambe Lancaster Galgate Garstang and Preston with Barton Grange. Services 40/41 operate the 1/2 hour service throughout the waterbus timetable. Ask the driver for the NEW Barton Grange garden centre at Bilsborrow. On alighting from the bus stop it is a two minute walk to our boat which is situated on the right hand side as you enter the main gates. There is no train station nearby, the nearest stations being Lancaster and Preston.

Garstang - Moss Lane is situated just 5 to 7 minutes walk from the centre of the town. Customers can make arrangements to be picked up at the Kepple Lane bridge (next to the Owd Tythe Barn). this is situated just 5 minutes from the town centre.Travelling by Stagecoach bus there is a half hour service connecting Morecambe Lancaster Galgate Garstang and Preston with Barton Grange. Services 40/41 operate the 1/2 hour service throughout the waterbus timetable. There is also a Blackpool to Morecambe hourly service 42 which calls at Galgate and Lancaster.

Ratcliffe Wharf - This stop is situated well off the main A6 road and is usually used for coach connections. That said its great walking country and getting off here gives you a number of options. A 15 minute easterly walk takes you to the A6 and the New Hollies pub/restaurant and the bus stop is right at the pub. Again the 40/41 service operates 1/2 hourly in both directions to Galgate Lancaster and Morecambe and in the opposite direction to Gartsang Barton grange and Preston. You can continue the walk to include Scorton and returning via lower Bowland to Gartsang. Back at Ratcliffe Wharf two further walks can be made. One is southerly back towards Cabus Nook along the canal and then towards the main A6 where you can again catch the stagecoach bus 1/2 hourly service. Next to the bus stop is the popular "Woody's" fish and chip bar. OR you can follow the boat northwards as it twists and turns through the countryside. Optional walks to Potters Brook ( A6 bus stop just 2 minutes away) and Galgate ( A6 bus stop just 1 minute away).

Galgate - Galgate is situated ideally for cross connection to the bus service. Its only a minutes walk from or to the bus from the waterbus stop. Here you can catch the 1/2 hourly service in both directions or you may like to walk the locks down to Glasson Dock and catch the bus back into Lancaster from there. For those with a walking ethic you can then walk the off road Lune footpath into Lancaster from Glasson Dock.

Lancaster - The Aldcliffe Road waterbus stop is less than 3 minutes from the bus stops and only 10 minutes from the rail station. Virtually in the central area of the city a 10 minute walk will put you in its central area. Around the Aldcliffe road area are good food pubs and hotels such as the canalside "Waterwich" where you can partake in food and drink while watching the boats go by or the Penny Bridge hotel where a coffee and snack is available.

 Lune Aqueduct - The Lune Aqueduct has been refurbished during 2011/12 and now includes park area's as well as superb panoramic views. The waterbus stop is situated near to halton road on the west side of the aqueduct, but any passenger wishing to board can flag down the boatmaster to join the waterbus service from caton road to halton road. The bus stop on halton road is just two minutes from the waterbus stop.
